How Time Stands StillIn Camera Lucida, Roland Barthes describes pictures to be not what is but what was... put in another way what has ceased to be. Static images then take on the task of representing that which is ever changing. Barthes based his reflections on his personal feelings about and observations of photographs, and one photograph, in particular, of his mother as a child. Based on requests from some dA friends, I offer this collection of images that seem to be frozen in time. The sense of loss and quiet in these images is profound.
